Something wonderful is happening behind our prison bars. There are spiritual transformations taking place! There are hard hearts softening....tenderizing. This is great news when we consider what someone so aptly said, " the most dangerous weapon in the U.S.A. today is a hard heart." One prisoner, trying to sound tough maybe, vowed, "Wait till I get out, I'm going to go and kick my brother-in-law's butt." "Then you'll end up right back here," his friend told him, "so you won't do any such thing, besides, you're just a marshmellow anymore. You've changed, you know. You're nothing but a big teddy bear now. They'll have to put you in the minimum minimum minimum security teddy bear unit pretty soon." "You mean the Care-Bear Custody Block?" "Yeah, that's the one. Where they go around giving each other big hugs all day long, practicing for their day of release." I'm not saying this is happening to everyone in the jails and prisons. But it is happening to increasing numbers of our inmates, as if soon an army of teddy bears and care bears is going to be unleashed upon our society inflicting it with so many fearless, wholehearted hugs (not the stiff overly polite kind) that we may find ourselves disarmed and, yes, de-polarized! Oh no.........Oh yes!! Get ready, Dostoyovsky, if the level of our civilization can be judged by the conditions inside our prisons, I want to take you on a tour of the Care Bear Block.
