Becoming Unequally Yoked
(Dating and Marrying the Unsaved)
By Mark A. Parks
When we are born again in Christ, we have a whole new perspective on life. We don’t live the way we formally lived. The Bible says “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17. This means we no longer have any thing in common with the world’s way of thinking. Keeping this in mind, it would not be wise to date or marry someone who is not in Christ. The word of God lets us know that two people cannot walk together unless they agree. A believer and non-believer do not agree spiritually and on worldly matters
God’s word points out that, light has no fellowship with darkness. Marriage is one of the most important decisions one makes. So we need to be very selective and prayerful about whom we choose to spend the rest of our lives with. We must be mindful of the fact that an unsaved person is not in covenant relationship with God therefore, they cannot be in covenant relationship with us as Men and Women of God. And when we unite with an unsaved person we are uniting with a spirit that is not in covenant with God.
Some try to do the missionary dating task. We think that we can win them to Christ while we are dating them. Most of the time, the unsaved person is only going through the motions just so they can be with you. It’s not really Jesus they want; they want you. Remember, that no one can come to God unless the Spirit of God draws them.
