The dark clouds rolled in
like black stallions charging
forth upon dry dirt.
She was blinded and
thus felt abandoned
in the thick mist.

Stunned, her appetite was gone;
her mouth dry
Her feelings betrayed her
with distortion upon distortion.
But she clearly see they were
tangled up in some kind of trap.

She could no longer trust them
though they had been a valuable
guide at other times.

She picked up His word
and chose to believe
With her will she
anchored her heart into:
Nothing can separate me
from the love of God.

The lie was abated
His name is Emmanuel;
He is with me
The arrow unhooked.

He is gracious and compassionate;
slow to anger and rich in love
The wound bandaged.

A recovery
– a speedy recovery –
no one expected it.
They thought they had her.

And even this,
even this dark trial
He can use for good.

This wounded soldier got up
and shook the dust off
Energy came back,
even stronger than before
With a confidence that
even scared her own self.

She pulled out her promises
and started speaking them
Never to be fooled again.

He is there even if not felt.
His words are powerful
no matter the situation.
He can be trusted no matter
what it looked like
And that's that.
