ACCEPTING GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY IN A TROUBLED WORLD

"Why do you boast of evil, you mighty man? Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God? Your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor, you who practice deceit. You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth. "Selah" (Psalm 52:1-3)

I am finding a real struggle accepting God’s sovereignty.( Psalm 135:6) Especially, with all the scandals and destruction in our government.( Acts 17:26) It's just getting harder to reconcile the biblical truth with this evidence around us. And if you will all speak honestly as believers, you are probably having the same feeling. Sometimes there is no other apparent explanation, of what is happening around the world, except that God chooses to do so for the glory of His Son simply because He is God.(Isaiah 45:5)

The scripture teaches that according to God's sovereignty all things are under His control and command and nothing happens outside of His divine permission. ( Ephesians 1:11). And His purposes are all-inclusive. ( Isaiah. 46:11). Thus, nothing takes Him by surprise. This includes the good and bad deeds of individuals and countries alike. The sovereignty of God is not merely that God has the power and right to effect all happenings, but that He does so, always and without exception. And yes, God has used evil empires to effect His perfect will. (Genesis 50:20)

It has taking a lot of soul searching, on my part, to accept the reality of His sovereignty. I know it's all a matter of faith. And as a believer, I must resolve to my faith. (Hebrews 11:1-6) You see, God bids us come to Him in faith. So with my limited knowledge of His flawless attributes, I must except His "perfect will" for my country, my life, and my future. (Ephesians 1:11)

And I do except the fact that He is waiting for me to turn to Him with my fears and doubts, in order that He may comfort my soul. I need only to turn to the declaration of His inspired word (2 Timothy 3:16), which in actuality is Him speaking to us in this modern day environment, in order that we may receive the assurance of His sovereign grace. His free grace not only saves us ( Ephesians 2:8-9), but it keeps us as well. (2 Timothy 1:9)

You see, God actually does care for our concerns of this world. As He spoke to Jeremiah the prophet (Jeremiah 29:13), so will He speak to us, His Children.

"What is meant by the sovereignty of God, the supremacy of God, the kingship of God, and the god-hood of God. To say that God is Sovereign is to declare that God is God. To say that God is Sovereign is to declare that He is the Most High, doing according to His will in the army of Heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth, so that none can stay His hand or say unto Him what doest Thou? (Dan. 4:35). To say that God is Sovereign is to declare that He is the Almighty, the Possessor of all power in Heaven and earth. (Psa. 115:3). To say that God is Sovereign is to declare that He is "The Governor among the nations" (Psa. 22:28), setting up kingdoms, overthrowing empires, and determining the course of dynasties as pleaseth Him best. To say that God is Sovereign is to declare that He is the "Only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords" (1 Tim. 6:15). Such is the God of the Bible".

So should we pray for our leaders, be they evil or just ? The Apostle Paul addresses this specific question in (1 Timothy 2:1-4), as he linked these prayers to the peace of our nation.

O Lord I pray, let me stop trying to judge my Heavenly Father, as to how He should act in today's world, and just simply pray that He will give me perfect peace and comfort, through His Holy Spirit. (John 14:26)
