Let Your Light Shine

St. Matthew 5:14-16 says ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid neither do men light a bushel, but on a candlestick and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven. My word to share is Let your light shine.

We live in a world where darkness is evident. Everywhere you turn, evil abounds. As times goes on darkness grows and love waxes cold. Here in the text Jesus is talking to his disciples about letting their light shine before men so that God the Father would be glorified. Just as the disciples were told to let their light shine, so must we let our light shine.

There must be something different about us that the world can notice since we are Christians. Not that the world will see us, but they will see Christ in us. Jesus is the light of the world amen, our light is the light of Christ because He is in us through the Holy Spirit. Of our own nature we can show no light because our righteousness is but filthy rags. It takes the light of Christ to glorify God Almighty so let your light shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

The Pharisees and Saducees were the religious sects in those days. These men walked about portraying themselves as men of God but inwardly they had no light in them. They had no light because they rejected Jesus. Since Jesus is the light of the world no Christ means no light. Letting your light shine does not mean you are perfect but a work in progress.

In conclusion, God is looking for a people who He can show the world Himself, especially in a world were people are devolving and sinking into despair. The bible says Jesus is light and in Him is no darkness at all. St. John 4:3 states In Him was life and the life was the light of men. So let your light shine so bright not like a diamond, but like the Son of the most high God who called you out of the darkness that’s in the world. Amen.
