Swept Up
“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Luke 15:8-10 (NIV)
What kind of house do you live in? I live in a house with nice tile and wood floors. The floors are nice and even and very clean. In my house, I have electric over head lighting with several lamps. The house is furnished with easy to move furnishings. If I were to drop something it would be easy to find. In Luke 15:8-15, he is not talking about a house like mine, nor, is he talking about a house like yours.
Luke is talking about a house built over two thousand years ago. This house would have been built out of stone with very little lighting. The floors were far from even. The floors were built from chunks of rocks and loose dirt in between. The lamps were more like candles, which was the only light. This woman had only 10 coins and she lost one. This one coin must have been very important to her. She could not do without it. She searched her scantily lit home all day for the coin. She swept every chuck of rock, which was the floor and the crevasses between each one, there were many. The search for this coin was extensive. When she finally finds the coin she is ecstatic, she rejoices. I see tears of joy falling from her eyes, calling and shouting to her neighbors, rejoice, party with me my coin that was lost has been found.
In the lost trilogy, the lost son, sheep and coin, Jesus expresses great joy over one who is lost but now found. There is a great party to be celebrated. If you are lost God is looking for you to be found. He longs for your return to him. Each crevasse is searched each rock turned over. No matter what you have done come to God, believe and follow Jesus. Angels and God are waiting to rejoice, the Angels are waiting to party. No matter what you have done God wants you back, come back, believe, repent be baptized. Let Gods broom sweep you up, clean you off and begin new in Christ. Come on Home, let’s have a party.
God Bless
