THE EASTER STORY

Let me tell you a story, told at Easter time,
About the love of Jesus and man’s being blind
The people were His accusers--no mind He was the Son,
They sought the freedom of Barabbas, and forgot all that Jesus had done.

Jesus knew of His Betrayer, disciple Judas Iscariot,
All, for thirty pieces of silver not an awful lot.
And then there was Peter, who professed to love Jesus so,
But Christ foretold of his denial, thrice before the cock would crow.

At Gethsemane, He prayed to the Father,
The same prayer, three times one—
“Father, let this cup pass from me…
Nevertheless, Thy will be done.”

Then came the hour, they came and arrested Him,
Without the “benefit” of the Father, our Savior was condemned.
They took Him before Pilot, a part of the Hierarchy’s master plan—
But Pilot symbolically “washed his hands” saying: “I find no fault in this man.

The soldiers mocked and stripped Him, put on a robe of red,
They spat on Him and scourged Him; put a “crown of thorns upon His head.
Then came the hour, the way look bleak and dim,
They nailed His hands and feet to the Cross, and proceeded to crucify Him.
Hanging there on the Cross, that you and I be set free,
In the ninth hour He was heard to say: “My God, My God—why have Thou forsaken me?”

Jesus did all He came to do, and by faith He tried,
“Into Your hands I commit My Spirit,” and then the Savior died.
The Earth was said to tremble, underfoot as they went,
The “Veil of the Temple,” torn top to bottom-- as it was surely rent.

Down at the foot of the Cross, on wet and bloody sod,
A solider was heard to say: “Surely, this was the Son of God!”
But that’s not how the story ends, as they buried Him in a borrowed tomb that day,
For on the first day of the week they found, “the stone was rolled away.”

Now that you’ve heard the Easter Story, don’t let its meaning be lost,
For Jesus truly paid it all, that day upon the Cross.
In Him we have Salvation; In Him we’re truly free,
For the love of God shone so personal know, Christ died for you and me
