TO LOOK SHARP, TO FEEL SHARP, TO BE SHARP

Now that I am getting older, I seem to reminisce much more than in times past. Yes, the occurrences of the past are now more vivid than all the current events put together. One obsession, from my past, was the yearly "world Series" baseball event that always seemed to pit the New York Yankees against the Brooklyn Dodgers. And being a true Yankee fan, I would always root for them. My favorite commercial, the one with the catchy tune, was the Razor commercial presented by the " singing parrot". You may know the tune, which started something like, " to look sharp, to feel sharp, to be sharp".

Does this tune not resemble our life of a Christian? Should we not look sharp, feel sharp and be sharp, in our daily walk with the Lord. ( Proverbs 3:5-6)

Let us just hark back to our former life. That life without God's transforming love. Do you not remember what your life was like before you became a Christian? When you were loss, outside of God's love. Before God saved you and turned your life around . That period in your life when you were busy working your way to heaven. That time when you were waiting to be good enough to come to Christ. That era when you relied on the parents to get you to heaven. If so, isn't Gods free Grace wonderful? ( Ephesians 2:8-9)

In the 19th Chapter of Matthew, we find a self-righteous man who thought that he had kept the commandments, but knew that he did not have eternal life. He knew that he lacked something very important in his life. The Lord Jesus dealt with him in a very skillful way, showing him his great sin and unbelief. ( Matthew 19:16-22)

This man was not ready for salvation. His first need was to see himself as a guilty, condemned, lost sinner. As someone once said, "Before you get saved, you need to get lost!" The Lord Jesus accomplished this by fulfilling the law. (Romans 3:20).

This simple little poem paints a good picture of life. A life from sin, ( Romans 3:23) to love, ( 1 John 4:8) to being saved ( Romans 10:9). What about you, beloved ? ( Matthew 6:24)


To look lost as in the human flow
To feel lost to the world I go
To be lost sins evil I bestow
When His great love I castaway

To look loved when not at my best
To feel loved as does all the rest
To be loved in His arms caressed
When His love to me He did portray

To look saved is by faith I aim
To feel saved God's grace I claim
To be saved is what I became
When for me He took my sins away
