What Time is it?
Solomon said, “To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: (Ecclesiastes 3:1 NKJV).
We look at our watches…we pull out the cell phones…we glance at the big clock on the side of a historical building…or we take a peek at the clock on the wall especially when we’re at work or in the classroom in hopes that the big hand strikes the hour that will release us for the day so we can enjoy the rest the day or night. We are always seeking to find out WHAT TIME IS IT? What time do you have? When do we have to be there? When will they start the class, the show, the movie, the church service, the game, or the event we are going to see? Are we running late or do we have enough time to be there on time? What time is it on my Biological clock? What time is it? I think I have to feed the baby… Walk the dog… Do my homework… Start to cook…or clean up before the guests arrive at the house.
Hi, Faith-writers God has been burning a teaching in my heart about TIME and how we can learn to use our time wisely and know the Divine Purpose of God’s Timing in our lives individually and collectively as Christians. There are many Christians clueless about the TIME in which we live in and how to place God’s TIME in its proper application.
Time a Determining Factor
Time—in Hebrew [et] is a proper time; a season. There is a time to every purpose. Noah Webster pointed out using the verse in (Ecclesiastes 3:1 NKJV)
Strongs Concordance says, time, especially (adverbially with preposition) now, when, etc:--after, always, certain, continually, evening, long, season, due season, as long as, evening-tide, noontide, time, mealtime, what time, when.
Teacher’s Note: When we look at various definitions we need to see the PRACTICAL APPLICATION of that definition. For example, each word that Strongs Concordance drew out has a PRACTICAL APPLICATION in some area of our lives to be utilized and executed.
Solomon gave us his definition of TIME with PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS;
A time to be born (or to bear a child), and a time to die; A time to plant, and a time to pluck what was planted; (Eccl. 3:2 NKJV) (See Hebrews 9:27 everyone is appointed to die.)
A time to kill, and a time to heal; A time to break down, and a time to build up; (Eccl. 3:3 NKJV)
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; A time to mourn, and a time to dance; (Eccl.3:4/ Romans 12:15 NKJV)
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; (Eccl.3:5 NKJV)
A time to gain, and a time to lose; A time to keep, and a time to throw away; (Eccl. 3:6 NKJV)
A time to tear, and a time to sew; A time to keep silence, and a time to speak; (Eccl. 3:7 NKJV)
A time to love, and a time to hate; A time of war, and a time of peace. (Eccl.3:8/ Luke 14:26 NKJV)
Narrowing Down Time
We are governed by Time. We have been created to operate on the earth by Time that God created;
1. Day and Night (Genesis 1:3-5 NKJV)
2. God then said, let there be lights in the firmament of heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years (Genesis 1:14 NKJV)
3. So God established a Time-table of; Day and Night, Signs (the 12 signs that gives us the 12 months of the year, different from the Zodiac that’s used in astrology), Seasons (the 4 Seasons we have Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall) and Years.
4. This is why we have;
1. Day and night (12 hours for Day and 12 hours for the Night)
2. 12 months that makes up a Year
3. 4 Seasons in a Year
Time We May or May not Understand
We learned early in life the about the Time and Seasons that govern our days, months and years; However…
Do we know if we are to remain at the present job we have or to seek another line of work?
Do we know about the Time and Season that God has on our individual (Calling) to serve in the Ministry?
Do we know if it’s the right Time to have a girl or boy friend or to get married?
Do we know if it’s the Right Time to obtain your GED or go to College?
Do we know if it’s the right Time to buy a home, a car, a boat or some other toy?
We must take TIME to meditate on the list of TIMELY Acts that Solomon pointed out that has a unique application in our lives. We must also ask God in prayer about the TIMING in which we are in and for wisdom of how to make the most out of the TIME we have!
What is this SEASON?
Solomon said, TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON… (Eccl.3:1a NKJV). The first part of this verse speaks volumes. For those of you wishing that school was over well consider that it’s only for a SEASON or Semester 4 or 5 months out of the year. And once you pass the course it’s done! You can have your Spring or Winter break and relax, regroup and refresh your mind from all the studying. The Degree is just a few Credits away so don’t give up or give in now!
For those of you that find themselves in a dead-end job, and are eagerly seeking new employment and are wondering why you haven’t had a call from a recruiter or HR—have you ever wondered if it’s the SEASON to leave your current job? Joseph (Jacob’s son) had to be working with his family business for an appointed TIME, then he was sold as a slave only to end up in a higher paying job in Potipher’s house, then he was thrown in prison the worst place to work—only to be set-up to enter the predestined position that God originally had for him as the Leader of Egypt. (Genesis Chapters 37-50 NKJV)
This Biblical example serves as a lesson of job related opportunities, promotions and demotions that are designed by God to train you to be the Man or Woman God created you to be in the foreseeable future of God’s ultimate plan for your life. (Read, “Different ways God calls us” to get a better idea of this concept).
For those of you in Ministry—yes God called you and you’ve ministered here and there and you seem to be stuck in which direction God wants you to go in, consider the Prophets and Teachers in Antioch when they had FASTED, PRAYED and MINISTERED to the LORD to find out what is HIS DIVINE AGENDA for their lives. Just because you obtained a Degree in Theology doesn’t mean you’re exempt from the practical application of seeking God for the next phase of Ministry. Which is done by FASTING, PRAYING and Waiting on God by MINISTERING to HIM (Acts 13:1-4 NKJV) I also recommend that you read the articles God led me to write on (“Fasting, Prayer and Ministry” and “Waiting on God Developing Ministry”).
For the people that find themselves in a relationship--what SEASON is it for you with your significant other? Or is she or he a potential wife or husband? What is the status of your relationship? An Acquaintance, a friend, an evil friend, a boy or girl friend, a fiancé(e), or are they ready to be Mr. or Mrs.? I recommend that you read the articles on the Biblical art of dating and relating to gauge where you are in your personal relationship.
We don’t have to be clueless anymore when we are faced with the TIMES and SEASONS in our personal lives. There is valuable information out there to help guide you in every stage and phase of your personal life to see if it’s the right TIME and SEASON to go to College, apply for a new job, start dating, or get married or enter a new level of ministry. There is SEASON when you will be called by the military to go to war; there is a SEASON when you make plans to demo a part of the home to make the improvements that will increase the value of your home. There is a SEASON that you will attend a funeral that you least expected to go and weep with those who suffered the lost of their beloved friend or relative. The objective is to know what we must do during that SEASON.
May God Bless you with revelation about the TIME and SEASON you find yourself in and begin to make the adjustments to be in God’s Perfect TIME and SEASON in Jesus’ name amen.
