May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. (Romans 15:13 ESV)
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. (Hebrews 11:1-3 ESV)
Faith requires hope to be activated as a first element. Hope is what motivates believers to move toward God and request intercession. Without hope there can be no faith!
The next few passages are from the 119th Psalm. Each verse shows how hope helps to build a relationship with God.
And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, for my hope is in your rules. (Psalms 119:43 ESV)
Hope originates with the Word of God!
Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice, because I have hoped in your word. (Psalms 119:74 ESV)
Hope gives testimony regarding God's power, deliverance and provision being manifested in my life.
You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word. (Psalms 119:114 ESV)
Hope provides protection and security from my enemies.
Uphold me according to your promise, that I may live, and let me not be put to shame in my hope! (Psalms 119:116 ESV)
Hope provides life and assurance that God will make His promises a reality!
I rise before dawn and cry for help; I hope in your words. (Psalms 119:147 ESV)
I hope for your salvation, O Lord , and I do your commandments. (Psalms 119:166 ESV)
Hope gives entrance to salvation and deliverance when I act in obedience to His Word!
Hope is directly proportional to the amount of God's word we keep within our heart and our mind.
Do you need more hope with which to face your future? Study God's Word! Especially study the promises of God and your position in Christ. The promises reveal God's plans and God's intent. The scriptures that reveal who we are in Christ is the portrait God has painted based on how He sees us! The promises are our supply and our provision. Our position establishes our relationship to God the Father, Jesus, the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
Here are just a few of the promises God is waiting for us to claim:
Bless the Lord , O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. (Psalms 103:2-5 ESV)
1. Forgiveness
2. Heals all diseases
3. Provides youthful endurance and stamina.
Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:4, 5 ESV)
1. His substitionary sacrifice lifts our transgressions.
2. Peace of mind, spirit and body.
3. Healing
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." (Acts 1:8 ESV)
1. Power to be a witness of Jesus.
I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 1:4-8 ESV)
1. Enriched by all speech and knowledge
2. Provided with spiritual gifts
I can do all things through him who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13 ESV)
Ability to do "all things" by the power of God.
And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover." And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs. (Mark 16:17, 18, 20 ESV)
The ability to perpetuate the ministry of Jesus by divine endowment.
Now, a few passages that reveal who we are in Christ.
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:12, 13 ESV)
We are children of God by His will.
The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. (Romans 8:16, 17 ESV)
We are children, yes, but even more, we have been made heirs and fellow heirs with Him.
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:37 ESV)
We have been made more than conquerors through Him.
And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."
(1 Corinthians 1:30, 31 ESV)
By being in Christ we have been made the wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption of God.
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV)
Through Him we are made the righteousness of God!
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, (Ephesians 1:7 ESV)
In Him we have redemption and forgiveness.
In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, (Ephesians 1:11 ESV)
We have already obtained an inheritance.
In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:13, 14 ESV)
Because we exist in Him we are sealed with the Holy Spirit, the guarantor of our inheritance.
These are just a few of the scriptures that reveal our rights, our standing and our benefits of being in Christ!
Study the Word and receive hope that empowers your faith to realize all God has waiting for you! Only then will you be able to move in power, receive His provision and live as a child who is an heir and joint heir with Christ in all things!
