I have finished the first portion of my study of the Psalms. To call this study amazing would not be enough to even begin to describe it! It is from C.H. Spurgeon's two volumes called "The Treasury of David." I have covered 446 pages and I am only up to Psalm 27. What a joy it has been!

He also adds to his teachings many quotes from other great scholars of the Word, from years, and even centuries ago. As I have said many times, I love to study under the scholars of the past... before so much of the understanding has been invaded and distorted by a lot of teaching that comes more from the minds of men than the Spirit of God.

I am always astounded when I see things that God has opened to my understanding repeated in almost the very same words among these teachers. That does not give any place to pride in myself.... no way! The joy of it is in the realization that WE HAVE THE SAME TEACHER! The same availability of God in their lives is the same availability of God in mine! All I need to do is seek Him!

In studying the Psalms with Spurgeon it has also helped me find other teachers from as far back as the 1400's. God truly is the same yesterday, today and forever! In reading the addition quotes at the end of each chapter, and the further explanation from their experiences, I have located some other volumes of teaching that I wanted to go into... not on Psalms, but other areas of study... all biblical study, of course.

I did some research to try to locate one that particularly caught my eye, and in doing so I located a place on Amazon.com called Forgotten Books. They are reprints of books written long ago that are not available through regular channels. They are varied by subject, but my only interest is the study of the Word. I found two wonderful books that I believe will be a real blessing to add to my studies. They were not expensive at all... one was $10 and the other was $12; and both contain over 400 pages each. I am so excited to see where they are going to take me... especially in light of the new assignments and direction God has spoken to me during this first two weeks of studying with C.H. Spurgeon.

He seems to be pulling so many things together, in both my understanding and my desire to go deeper into the Word, and He is also setting my heart in a place of greater determination to stay at the very center of His will, for each and every moment of the time I have remaining to do just that.

The days fly by so quickly, I must spend them wisely and redeem the time as the Word instructs me to. It is not "work" as you would think of the spending of time and energy on a task that leads to weariness. It is indeed my greatest joy, and I come away from it not at all weary... but energized, strengthened and eager to give more of myself to it! I am willing to spend time with Him... and He honors that by being willing to spend time with me. My greatest hope is that it brings His heart the same joy it brings mine! I am so very, very, grateful!
