How do you live when no one is watching?

I Peter 1:13-17
Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children do not be conformed to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written; be holy because I am holy. Since you call on a Father who judges each man’s work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear.

How do you live your everyday life? Do you act different when you have company? At Church? Work?

This is a question that recently presented itself to me. Do I act differently around people than I do at home, around my children? My husband? I spent the last week in a trial run. Let me explain.
I began imagining that some of the inmates I mentor and a few close “ Christian” friends were with me every step of everyday.

Was the television shows I watch daily suitable? Would I watch anything different? Maybe NOT watch some shows? How would I talk to my children? My husband? My friends? If someone was always watching? You see what we often forget is SOMEONE is ALWAYS watching!!!! God sees, hears and knows ALL!!!

Here is what I discovered. Mostly I am the same at home as I am around others. That's not saying I didn't find several areas I need to change... who could go through an entire week and not find some areas in their lives they are not real proud of? I have been told in the past that I am bold, upfront and sometimes painfully honest. While my objective may not be to hurt people, often that is something I may do. So, you see while I may not act much differently while I am around people.. I still need to be more like God.

I challenge you... the next few days take this test. When your children drop and spill something, how would you react if your Pastor were standing in the room? Is that how you will react? Do you normally pray at your meals if friends are not there? Or do you simply eat without blessing your food? I have been blessed by this test, and how my eyes have been opened by the littlest things I say or do.

Father how I thank You for the tests You give us, for the ways You present the need for change. Thank You for all the people you place in my life. May I always reach people with an open, honest and loving heart. May I be holy unto You. I ask for forgiveness for all the times when I re-acted instead of acting in stressful circumstances, in every step of my life. May You always remind me that someone is Always watching my actions, listening to my words... Thank You for loving me.... Often despite myself.
In the Perfect Name of Christ I pray... AMEN...
