We stood on that sandy shore.
My sister and I; arm in arm; tears flowing freely.
Wondering what life holds.
We watched the sun set each day.
Both lost in our own thoughts.
As the last sun ray turned to dusk and we walked away.
My sister and I are in uncharted waters.
We are not the carefree girls of our youth.
We have seen three marriages her and I.
I; like my sister before me, found peace that third time.
We had found our soul mates.
We stood on that cold beach, and thought of what was.
My heart was sad; hers was broken.
We stood arm in arm that whole month.
As we said goodbye to her husband for the very last time.
Tears mingled with the sea air.
Salt dried upon our faces.
As we set him free to fly once more.
