Shades Of Grey



When shadows fall in shades of grey,
I wonder if there will come a day
When hurt, and grief, and pain, and sin
Will be replaced by peace within.

My thoughts have come to rest upon
The things that I have missed;
Well-meaning friends have shared with me
From their own well-worn list
All the pain these things have brought,
The lessons You have taught.

But what a sense of loss I feel,
When visions never become real.
In troubled sleep I watch them rise,
Large as life,
But all are lies
That leads my heart into such sin,
And beckons to let the others in.

The struggles of this wayward heart
Have continued through the years.
Strongman standing at the door,
Fortified castles that imprison the soul,
Causing much sadness, impeding the goal,
Of becoming like Jesus,
My anchor, my stronghold.

When sunlight springs forth
From my soul,
Then I’ll know that I’m now whole.
To greet the dawn
With joy and gladness,
And without a hint
Of pain or sadness.
No longer in wanting or in needing,
This loaf will then be broken,
Not of my bread, but Your bread,
Your love will tenderly be spoken.
To multitudes of people
Whose hearts all need to know
Of God’s love and of His faithfulness,
His mercy He will show.
