In the darkness of the midnight
Sweet rest eluded me
As shadows of my past sinful life
began haunting me
I called out in desperation
Oh Lord won't you hear my plea
My soul is spent from much vexation
As Satan tries to take me over
And keep me from my goal
So I'm asking you for mercy
For needed strength to win the war
Lord keep me safe within your fold
A peace so serene filled my heart
There in the shadow of the dark
In my melody played so soft and sweet
And soon I drifted off to peaceful sleep
I knew I had no reason to fear
My Guardian, my Lord is ever near
