He hates himself! Once again, Adam fails. He can’t stand it. Why doesn’t he have control of his actions? He always senses when the temptation is there. He knows where the temptation shows itself. Yet every time he feels that nudge from the Holy Spirit to high tail it out of there he ignores Him. What is up with this compulsion that overcomes him when it is time to decide to fall into temptation or to flee from it?

How many of you have been in this dire predicament? I know I have. How did you overcome this weakness to avoid sin? Is it still a struggle? I know in my life it was a revolving door. I would ride the roller coaster of perpetual sin and every time I got off I wanted to throw up. I would have the equivalent of a hangover from whatever sin it was that controlled my life. It was an addiction. And just like any other addiction it was a cover up of a fear or insecurity. I got out of it by replacing the bad with the good.

We can’t just take the bad out of us and think the good will just come right on in and fill us up. VOILA! We are cured of being tempted and falling into sin ever again. Nope… sorry doesn’t work like that. It takes just as much work to get out of bad habits and a sinful lifestyle as it does to get into it them. We are not vacuums. We cannot be void. We have to replace and keep filling ourselves with the good of God.

I am not going to tell you what worked for me. At least not right now. If you are struggling with temptation or if there is a particular sin in your life that is really destroying your joy as a child of God, then ask yourself this one question, “What work or bad habits did you do, or create, to get yourself into the life of sin that you are currently in?” Once you have discovered the problem, then you will know the solution. Do exactly the opposite.

If you are not a child of God, in other words you are not a Christ follower, but you know your life has more meaning to it. You know that the things going for you right now are not good things. They are draining you of your energy. They are tormenting you in your sleep. You can feel them controlling your actions and the decisions you make. And you want to be free, you want control. Pray this prayer and meet the only person who can help you:

“Jesus, I don’t know you. I have never tried to know you. I have never read the Bible and believed the words in it could help me. But today I have no where else to turn. No one I have asked has ever had the answer, but this guy Danny says the answer lies in You. If he is crazy then I guess nothing will come of this, but if He is telling the truth reveal Yourself to me. Help me. Change me. I want to believe in You. I want to feel that peace that people talk about that they can’t even put into words. I want to know that joy that comes from trusting You when I am going through a violent storm in my life. All I know is I can’t do this alone anymore. I will not make it. If You died for me Jesus I want to believe it. If You came back to life I want to believe it. And if You can help me live a life better than what I am living now I want to believe it. Save me God! Save me Jesus! Have mercy on me! Thank You Father! Thank You for Your grace. Thank You for giving me something I do not deserve. I ask all of these things in Jesus name. Amen!”

Brother or sister if you just prayed that prayer or something like it, know that it isn’t about the words, but the heart behind the words. Now go and live a fulfilled life and don’t look back. Watch the love of the Father become real in Your life.
