When a baby sings hallelujah, doesn’t it make you smile? Not everyone smiles when they hear babies jabbering during church services. I do, though. To me, it is a beautiful sound to hear. It makes me smile when the preacher has to preach louder after a baby starts making baby noises. It is almost like they are in competition to see who can be heard.

I smile when I hear babies jabbering or young children speaking in church. It makes me glad to know their parents are tending the children’s spiritual needs. The parents recognize their beautiful babies are ugly sinners who need our awesome Savior. These parents are believing God’s Word will not return void (Isaiah 55:11). They understand about training up a child in the way they should go (Proverbs22:6).

These parents are building the legacy of the church. These babies and young children are tomorrow’s church leaders. It is exciting to see a church with many children. There will be someone to train to take the Gospel to our world and continue Christ’s work long after the parents are at home with Jesus. It is a dead church that has no children. Part of living in this world is that all of us are only here temporarily. The work continues through the children of our church. The children being taught God’s Holy Word are prepared for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus (II Timothy 3:15) and they are prepared to bring others to this same salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

God’s Word teaches parents to teach their children about Him (Deuteronomy 6:7). My heart thrills when I see or hear young children and babies in the sanctuary because it shows me these parents are taking their responsibilities seriously. These parents want to bring their children to the love and service of Christ. These parents are reminding me to pray for them as they seek to raise Godly children by bringing them to God’s house. These parents are ensuring tomorrow’s Kingdom workers.

Thank you, Lord, for the babies and children at church. Help me to show them how to put you first. Forgive me when I am annoyed with them. Help me to love them the way you love me, without condition. To you may all glory ascend.
