REMEMBERING VIET NAM

I still remember and have those dreams
Some reason they never leave it seems
Those steamy dark and rainy nights
In my fox hole, “Charlie” in our sites.

A war that took place so long ago
Turned eighteen and I had to go
Didn’t know what I was in for
One guy said, “Katie bar the door!

Caught in a cross fire that night
Nothing to see but a tracer light
One hit and bleeding he lie
The other shot waiting to die.

It was a sad day in our squad
Just yesterday I was in school
Eating my lunch in the quad
Now using my rifle as a tool.

Bombs and fire fell all around
Men running where they could
Incoming yelled, hit the ground
All praying to return to our hood

Every year celebrating at the ball
Each branch with a special day
Names written on a black wall
With their lives each had to pay.

When you wake up everyday
Remember why you are free
Lives given no ticket to pay
Here’s to my friend Sergeant Dee!
