THE PRODIGAL SON



There was a man who had two sons divided
One son wanted his share now he decided
So the man divided his property for them
On each son he place on their finger a gem.

A few days later the younger sold his share
He went to a different country without fear
Wasted his money on reckless living now
Never to go back home he made a vow.

Severe famine spread all over that country
With no money now he was getting hungry
Forced now to work for one of the citizens
All day he took care of pigs and chickens.

My father’s workers have more to eat than me
I will get up and go to my father’s house you see
Father I have sinned against God and you
Not fit as your son, give me some work to do.

His father’s heart filled with pity and joy
Gave him a hug and said, “you are my boy”
He called to his servants and gave the word
Bring the robe the one with the golden chord.

They prepared for a great celebration that night
The father’s joy was such a wonderful sight
My son was lost now he is found he declared
A fatten calf for my son will I have prepared.

The older son hearing of this was very mad
Father why would you reward a son so bad
I worked hard for you and never disobeyed
This isn’t fair he protested, in he weighed.

The father said to his oldest boy
You have always brought me joy
All that I have I have given you
What else would you have me do.

Your brother is back home again
Forgiveness is what we should obtain
He was lost now he is happily found
A blessing from God so profound.
