Trusting Is Difficult

Jesus asked us all a question, “Why do you worry?” Well, why do you worry? I have to ask myself that question every day because every day I worry about something. Whether it is the bills getting paid, one of the vehicles breaking down, my health or the health of my wife and kids, being a good pastor to those I am a leader to, not loving my wife enough, making sure everyone is happy, yada, yada, yada.

Why do I worry if I say I trust the Lord? It becomes second nature after a while to dismiss the power of God, to throw aside the strength of God, to ignore the omniscience of God. And we do. If God can remove my sins so far from me that they are no longer there, then why in the world could I not have a little more faith that the things I see will be taken care of.

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
he’s the one who will keep you on track. – Proverbs 3:5-6 TMB.

Man if I wasn’t so impatient and I would just trust God to supply the finances to get us out of debt. If I am doing my part of seeking, obeying, listening, committing my life to God then He will be faithful in providing for me. If I could just believe that I am eating healthy and I am exercising and that God is keeping me healthy. Oh man if I could just trust that He will give me the wisdom for the tough situations, the gentleness for the volatile situations, and peace for the uncertain situations. If I am doing what He asks, I can trust in all of this to be taken care of.

However, even if, and this is the tough part… even if God does not seem to come through and answer my prayers and my issues the way I asked Him to, even if my timing seemed perfect and His is a little or a lot late, I will still trust Him. I will still continue to have faith that He is all-knowing, caring, and loving. The reason He has not answered my prayers the way I wanted is not enough of a reason for me to cast my Father away into the trash after everything else He has done for me. And even if He did nothing else, He still created me, He still died for my sins, He still wants me to be with Him in glory, and He still looks at me as His prize creation.

Trust is the power of grace that we surrender to each day to move us forward in life. If we never take hold of trusting in the grace of God to cover our problems in life, then why trust at all. Most importantly we must trust even when the situation around tells us not to. We must trust God unconditionally as He loves us unconditionally. You must say to Him and yourself, “Jesus I trust You regardless of my situation around me. And even if this situation kills me, I will still trust that Your higher plan is greater than my own, even if I lack understanding.” And then the peace will flow and the trust will grow!
