I Don’t Want Your Gift

Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer you gift.
Matthew 5:23-24 (NIV)

I’ll tell you what, I just watched the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s mini-series and they certainly never reconciled befor...e going to worship service and making there offerings. Foolish pride led to a dispute, stubborn behavior and later a full out war. I am sure God knows what He is talking about when He is giving out commands. God doesn’t give commands just because He can; He gives them for our own good. Have you ever had a disagreement with someone and then not talked or interacted with them for awhile. God doesn’t want that hanging over us when we bring Him our offerings. In fact, He says, leave them go reconcile then come back. He is very clear.

A grudge is something Christians cannot afford and according to this passage are not even allowed in the Body of Christ. What grudge do you harbor? Who have you been angry at? That needs to be cleared up. Is foolish pride kicking up? Are they just being immature? Well it’s time to be the mature one, God says so. God doesn’t even want our gifts if we are not clean in this area. God teaches us a word, through the sacrifice of His Son. That word is Grace. He also teaches us forgiveness, love and mercy. We are called to be like Jesus. We too must put grace, mercy, love and forgiveness in our lives.

Okay, don’t wait, get up, run don’t walk or pick up the telephone there is reconciling that needs to be done, before God will accept your next gift. Reconciliation also makes folks feel better. We humble ourselves and remember my life as a Christian is not about me but about the sacrifice made for me. Swallow your pride, and say a prayer because it is time for some of the hard work. Reconciling and doing away with foolish pride. Don’t Wait.

God Bless
