Apologetics
"Letter to the Atheist."
Let’s just say
That for a moment-
You Believed.
Do not be concerned, we're only pretending,
But let’s just say that for a moment: you believed.
Perhaps,
You would: open your eyes,
See the fulfilment of your untold desires
And before you knew it-you'd be healed.
You'd open the book-that first Glorious look
And somehow, you'd begin to perceive.
You would no longer be chained,
You would be what those Christians call "Saved"
And just maybe,
Your Joy could flow out: Unrestrained and Uncontained.
But just now I've remembered:
You don't Believe.
Perhaps you could try it? Believing I mean.
I’m sure your Disbelief could take it.
Like you said, it's very strong. Unshakable even.
It should be able to withstand a moment
On the Other Side.
Hopefully.
Because apparently, even then: you will not believe.
When the Atheist wrote Back:
I cannot do all of what you say
Try believing I mean- just to see if God will make a way.
This God you serve, who you say will set me free
How am I to believe in this so-called Entity?
This “higher power” which I cannot even see?
As for Wickedness, Pain, and Perverted Desires
The things of this world which we know inevitably transpire
Where is your great Alpha and Omega when these things take place?
Sickness, Heartache and the mystery of Death,
The feeling that I know not when,
I will draw my last breath.
It is only reasonable for me to therefore conclude
That we must all resort to live lives of God-less solitude.
Live for today, make each moment count,
Faith, Hope and Love I feel I can do without.
This supposedly great God who claims to love without cause,
Seems crafty and cunning:
He has added a post-humous clause.
He says I will fully know Him upon entry into death
But still I must believe now that He is real-
Immeasurable
And has no actual breadth.
For you see I have looked into Your Bible,
My argument is sound.
It left me with no choice
But to disregard the knowledge I had found.
It said that we would see Jesus returning:
Riding on the clouds,
That the unknown hour when he returned
Would be one deeply profound
And the ones who chose to walk with Him,
in the midst of their time on earth
Would rejoice and be glad that their saviour had indeed returned.
I am left with no choice but to ask you this:
What kind of God would catch us all so unaware?
Why are we all able to live in spite of whether or not
We have chosen to believe that He is there.
If he is ruler, protector and maker of all things,
Why am I still able to enjoy life apart from Him?
The Believer’s Last Effort:
My friend as a long-time believer,
I have very much to say.
Yet the time when I was you actually seems
To me as if it was only yesterday.
In your letter I remember you mentioned
How you know not when life will end.
That is something which I strongly believe
Acknowledging God can easily mend.
For the hopelessness which must arise
When we accept that after death, that’s truly the end
Shows that as people:
We have an innate desire, for life without an end.
Life everlasting is what the Bible has called it,
A universally intriguing notion-that death could be halted.
What if I told you that this desire was in fact from above?
That if you believe death can’t snatch you from his heart?
But of course free-will must always play a part,
If He was to force us to believe, force us to give Him our hearts,
We would simply feel imprisoned-
and our souls would end up scarred.
And as a result of this, our hearts would become hard.
In the same way the evil,
To which you have referred,
Is what happens when people begin to live as if
God’s voice can never be heard.
For He created us all in His image- that is what I believe
So when we act and speak against His will,
Is like saying that in His presence
Is a place we can never be.
But if we decide to know Him,
to diligently seek Him with all our Soul
We become liberated, joyful, and begin to be whole
The void in us which seeks Hope, Truth and Faith
God has ensured His love will fulfil for eternity’s days
So now my friend I pray that at last,
You shall overlook the pain of the past.
Christ died so you could be restored unto Him.
So accept him in your life and be released from all sin.
He is worthy and Holy and all that is right
So cling to Him my friend-he’ll be forever by your side.
