We show our approval of someone or thing in a variety of ways. In the opera, the audience may shout bravo; in a country music event people whistle, clap their hands and stomp their feet. Rock music fans often rush the stage and throw themselves at the feet of their teen idol. Sunday morning worshipers offer a hearty amen, shout praise the Lord and nod in approval. If we appreciate a solo, choir or instrumentalist rendition, we applaud and rise to our feet. The common denominator in all is our approval of what we have heard. We want to show our approval in ways that others present can see and hear.

While we applaud to demonstrate our approval, others may not and vise versa. There is a great tragedy; many in our midst applaud evil. (Romans 1:18-32) Apostle Paul wrote a detailed account of the lives of those who Satan, the father of lies, had duped. In spiritual darkness, they cast aside moral restraints. Deceived, they not only chose evil over righteousness, but also cheered others on. “Although they know full well God’s just sentence-that those who practice such things deserve to die-they not only do them, but even applaud others who practice them (Romans 1:32 HCS).” Tragic, yet true…
