Flags are made to be flown,
to be unfurled.
Flags are made to flutter
in the wind
to fly their colors bright
in the light of day.
Flags are not to worry over
whether they might rip or tear
or be dirtied by the air.
No, a flag forever folded
is a flag unfulfilled,
like a ship ever at harbor
or a dormant instrument
with tune entombed in case of dust.
No! Ships are made to sail
and instruments to play,
and flags to fly up high
come whatever may.
