At The Table
The clock on the wall
reveals the dinner hour
Mom gives a call
but who can hear
when no one is near-
Rooms with screens
among other things
take part in
"the great divide"
while empty chairs
remain side by side
without a family
to share
a prayer of thanks
or a meal -
Busyness and technology
have begun to steal
the most tender part
of the family heart.
At the table
we were once able
to be together
for a little while
of each day
with a meal and a pray.
How sad, that family time
At the table
has drifted away.

I love this part of your poem:

You could have ended right there. I know that you had more to say, but for me that sense of emptiness and loneliness in those lines was the strongest feeling you evoked, and what came after was not nearly as strong.
