How grateful are you about what God’s given to you? Are you grateful enough to be concerned about what you’re doing or not doing with it? Indeed, all good things come from God? Are you done yet, dressing that vine? In Luke chapter 20 Jesus speaks in a parable to the chief priests about His planting a vineyard and handing it over, expecting good fruit to be produced. But when God sends His messengers in the form of prophets to ask about His vineyard, they kill them. Has the Lord been sending you messages you’ve ignored about those good things He’s planted in your life?

In this parable, those who were given the vineyard to keep or “dress,” treat God’s messengers with disgrace and shame out of hard heartedness because they did not heed the voice of the Lord. It’s as if they started to believe what God had given them was actually theirs and they were somehow not responsible for the God-given authority over it which they’d been given. In Matthew chapter 25, Jesus speaks about the three men with a different number of talents and how all but one, he with the least, did not step out and multiply what he’d been given like the others had. Therefore, what he’d been given was taken away and given to one who had proven they’d produced the most from God’s investment.

Has God invested in you, but the return has been meager? In this parable about the vine dresser, after God’s prophets had been killed, He finally decides to send His own Son, and you know what - they killed Him too. Has the wake up call God’s been trying to speak into your life died on the vine because you’ve killed it with ears that do not hear the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to you? Next time the Lord’s conviction rises up in you, don’t throw a wet blanket over it like a fire needing to be put out. Instead, fan the flame. I assure you, you’ll never be the same.
