For most of my adult life my favorite verse has been 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

Most folks agree that creature and creation are interchangeable in this passage the point being that when a person is truly saved a miracle as high or higher than the scale of Genesis creation has taken place. Albert Barnes comments on it in his commentary on the verse:

"In the conversion of a sinner, there is a change so deep, so clear, so entire, and so abiding, that it is proper to say, here is a new creation of God--a work of the Divine power as decided and as glorious as when God created all things out of nothing. There is no other moral change that takes place on earth so deep, and radical, and thorough, as the change at conversion. And there is no other where there is so much propriety in ascribing it to the mighty power of God."

We invest enormous effort convincing ourselves that we are nothing. God slams this idea with the truth of what happens when a person is in Christ. Mae West said of a man, "His mother should have thrown him out and kept the stork." Christ takes the same man and makes him new.
