As we look back on days of grace
To seek for Wisdoms aged face
Recall to mind that time and place
Where each one’s life began

None were worthy, no one good
In God’s presence, not one stood
T’was by His grace alone we could
Glimpse the Father’s plan

Days and months and years go by
To each, the seasons tell no lies
Valleys low and mountains high
He’s always there beside us.

Though we’ve sometimes stumbled great
Patience taught us how to wait on God
His grace decides our fate
His Spirit there to guide us

As we look back upon our days and
See the footprints that we’ve made
Do we see a narrow way?
A path born straight and true?

Or, have we somehow turned aside
To lengthen long an easy stride
Upon the road that’s ever wide
As if our work was through?

If we find we must look back to
See our Lord, it must mean that
We’ve left his side, left the track
Somewhere along the way

So, let us focus up ahead
Upon our goal we’ll look instead
And glimpse the prize for which it’s said
We’ll win that distant day
