Faith

I was young, maybe 5 or 6 when they found me. They beat me and gave me nasty liquid to drink. It burned my throat and gave me a terrible headache, but I had to or they would hurt me more. My mother had died in birth; my father was a drunkard who died not long afterwards.
His friends treated me with contempt and rough hands. I was soon made into a pick-pocket. Against my will was forced to steal from the innocent people that would go to help when they would stage a fight.
It's not like I wanted to, I felt so bad. One day I tried to run, but the men beat me and gave me no food for a long time. One day I saw a large building with lots of fancy people going in. I was curious and tried to go in, but realized that they would never let my kind in.
A week later, the friends went to jail and left me alone. I walked the streets and saw only happy families in warm houses. I stopped in front of the large building I had seen before. The doors were open and it looked so warm, so inviting that I couldn't help myself. I went inside; hearing the pad of my feet hit the shiny, tiled floor.
I walked to the front and a man was standing there reading. He seemed so happy, so content. I suddenly knew I was safe and with that laid down and the long, narrow couch. Soon I was asleep and the nice man took me to his house. I awoke to him reading a story about some children and lambs. How they would all come to Heaven and be the first to enter.
This man kept me as his own and over time, I learned of God and how this man would go to heaven one day, and when I died, I would go there to. He said that the lambs were children, innocent and sweet. This man was so nice and soon I forgot about the sad things that had happened in my life. God saved me from eternal doom and I am forever grateful.
