There is a brief episode given in Luke 22:47-51, when Jesus was being unjustly arrested in the garden, before His crucifixion. I encourage you to get your Bible and read it.
So, Jesus is being arrested. People did not like the claims He made about being God. One of His disciples got angry and cut off a soldier's ear with a sword. Jesus puts it back on. WOW!
Jesus could have said, "You saw what I just did. You've got the wrong man. It should be obvious now that I am who I have claimed to be. Just accept it and let me go." Jesus' divinity was looking them square in the face. But no, God's plan of redemption was to be fulfilled. Oh, how God loves us!
There is another lesson to be learned from this story. Think about the soldier who had his ear cut off and restored by Christ. I mean, the word had to be all over the town the next day. People probably came to him and sought him out. They were all "ears." (pun intended) They listened intently to what he had to relate.
Life application, from my pastor: Is there something that God has done for you and me that is so incredible that the word is getting out and people are wanting us to share it with them?

good article John. and yes, getting one's ear back I am sure was appreciated! I'm not sure if it was all over town, could have been, but maybe not. It was illegal to arrest a fellow Jew at night, they may have wanted to keep it hush....
Course as we know, EVERY SINGLE thing about the arrest and right up to and including the crucifixion was illegal by Jewish standards, but hey, why let your own law (which they proclaimed vehemently) get in the way???
