God’s Appointments
What do you think of when you read,” God’s appointments”? Do you remember an incident where things seemed impossible, and God intervened in a miraculous way and provided just the right Scripture verse [God’s appointment], and your heart leaped with joy? Perhaps funds were low and you were unsure where the money would come from to pay that bill, when God provided what you needed at the last minute, [God’s appointment]
The year was 1974, Beatrice was recently widowed, and was unsure what the future held for her and her daughters, yet God provided a job for her and her daughters, but how God provided funds and other needs for us was his clear intervention [God’s appointments]. One day Beatrice found a lovely basket of fruit with a beautiful bow on it, sitting on her front porch. Another time she found a five dollar bill [God’s appointment], it was as if it just appeared, that doesn’t seem like much today, but 36 years ago it went further. Beatrice thanked God for what he provided for her and her daughters. Scripture promises God provides for widows and their children, and provide he did.
God has a variety of appointments, perfect timings, we just happen to be there at the right time to get that position, house, or God leads us to where he desires us to be, open doors, even closed doors to lead us to where he desires for us to be, etc. My mind goes back to the book of Jonah.
God told Jonah to go to Nineveh to preach repentance to the people there, and Jonah purchased a ticket and went down to Joppa, the opposite direction.
Jonah records the following:
Jonah 1:4 God hurled a wind. This caused a storm where Jonah was thrown overboard by the other men.
Jonah 2:10 God commanded a great fish to swallow Jonah and return him to Nineveh. Jonah 4:6 God appointed a plant for Jonah to shade him from the heat.
Jonah 4:7 God appointed a worm to eat the plant and remove the shade which Jonah enjoyed from the plant. What a great object lesson God used.
Jonah 4:8-11 God appointed a scorching wind which caused Jonah to be overheated, then God speaks with Jonah about his lack of compassion on the people of Nineveh.
Application: Did you notice God hurled, commanded, appointed? Can you think of some areas of your life where you see God’s appointments? Perhaps they are open doors or closed doors. What are God’s appointments for you? Have you asked him?
Prayer: Thank you Lord for all the appointments in my life, that keep me in your will. Lord I need to watch for your appointments in my life. It sure makes life simpler when I follow your path for me rather than me going my own way, in Jesus name amen.
