Devotionals
Do you ever feel like you are defined and limited by the questions you live your life by? How big are those questions that define you, who you are; where you work; and even how you live? Quite often, without realizing it, we have defined our lives by only those questions we can answer. We don’t entertain questions we can’t readily answer because the answers aren’t easily found at our fingertips. Should we move to this place or do this kind of work or take a chance on love? No, we don’t have enough guarantees as to the outcome. So often we are motivated by fear instead of faith. By definition we live safely and limit the abilities God has given us because instead of depending that He will provide the perfect answer in due season, we want to know the answer now so we can know that our future’s secure.
How big have the questions been that define the decisions you’ve made in your life? Have they been defined as safe by the world’s standards or are they full of faith by God’s infinite promise? The first step is to have the faith to be obedient when God speaks to us and calls us into action. This alone can be a struggle and a stumbling block, being obedient to God’s will. But once you’ve sold out to God and given Him your life as a living sacrifice the way Christ did for you, the next step isn’t that you wouldn’t be obedient to God’s will but to know what His will is for your life. This kind of discernment takes time to develop through your intimate relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit's leading.
In every relationship you test the water. You trust a little more as your relationship grows. God’s waiting for you to give Him an opportunity to show you His faithfulness by asking you to step out of that tired old comfort zone and follow His still small voice. This is not merely for the sake of doing something different, but to truly discern His will for this step in your life and to take the next step even though you don’t have all the answers to some pretty big questions. The only answer you really need is that God is faithful and will lead, guide, direct, and provide. Therefore, the questions that define your life can be as big as God’s answer to them. And His answer has always been the cross of calvary which makes you free to fly higher than you’ve ever flown before.
