Wet Stone
A soldier camped upon the plain, I wait
No longer will I give pause nor hesitate
I wait to be called to battle in this land
Patiently with this wet stone in my hand
Shod with the gospel of peace I will march
I am renewed when my spirit is parched
My steps are guided by His mighty hands
With my faith in God, I boldly take a stand
Standing secure behind my shield of faith
I stand boldly for I know I am always safe
From fiery darts which the enemy throws
With each victory my faith in Him grows
I trust the Armor of God that I faithfully wear
My Armor is scarred but is still in good repair
Marred with the marks of previous battles fought
Of His righteousness my breastplate is wrought
His Truth is belted tightly upon my waist
Steadfast regardless of the enemies I face
Protected wholly against the devil's lies
I will not be fooled by the enemy's guise
Scraping the sword blade across the stone
Again and again while the edge is honed
A warrior earnestly sharpening his sword
Ready to rush into any battle for the Lord
This sword is His Word which is double edged
It is used to cut or against the enemy defend
As the spiritual war for all souls is engaged
Cloaked with His righteous anger I am enraged
I know not how soon I will do battle again
I humbly stand ever ready, to fight to the end
Until once more called, I will continue to hone
By studying His Word, this is my wet stone
At His call I will don my helm of salvation
I will march forward without reservation
Battling against all the enemies of the Lord
Against the deceiver our victory is assured
Brothers and Sisters,
I am going to share this one, but I feel it is not quite done. I have the vision of a soldier wearing the Armor of God sitting by a camp fire. He is sharpening his sword in preparation for the next battle. He is dirty and scarred from so many battle already fought, but he stands ready yet again to battle once more. The army is camped upon a plain, having battled up and down mountains and valleys.
I feel this poem touches on it, but does seem to have the impact I had hoped. I think this is a image of where I am. I know I have won and lost many battles over the years. I am beat up and tested. For a while I have been camped on a plain (a plateau as in my previous poem), recharging, renewing, and preparing for the coming battles. I feel that there is a big battle coming soon. I can almost feel it in the air. I know that I cannot battle this alone, and I know it is only through the Armor of God that I will be able to battle at all.
I hope this helps each of you prepare for the coming battle. Get into the Word of God, study His Word. That is the wet stone to sharpen your sword. God bless.
In Christ,
Christian

I echo Jody on this one. I could see that image you spoke of as I read. It is beatifully written and me a better insight to Ephesian six. Great piece!
Spot on, Christian!!! You're not the only one with that very same vision. The battle for souls is ramping up as we draw ever near the finish line that Jesus crossed with race won at the Cross! We're just catching up as we run toward His Eternal embrace - bringing all we can with us by His grace. (Too, too much to share here; will reply by private message on FB...) Blessings and Encouragement! Jody
