The Making Of A New Covenant


Scripture: Of God is for us, who can ever be against us?

--Romans 8:31 (NLT)


Air Force Sergeant Russell Cosby sat by himself in the Tinker Air Force Base dining room writing after just about every bite of food. As service personnel emptied the building, Sergeant Cosby remained still at his spot.

“Hey, Russ! Say what are you doing? You’ve been sitting there now for almost two whole hours,” remarked a member of the food service staff.

“I’m making up my resolutions. There are some things I really want to change in my life,” responded Sergeant Cosby.

“So what do you have written down, Sarge? I’m not tryin’ to be nosey. I’m just curious.”

“That’s okay. I’ll share with you what I’m considering. I’d like to:

--Give up being envious of what others have for being satisfied for what God has given me.
--Give up being fearful for placing my trust in God.
--Give up my anger towards my fellow airmen/women and neighbors for attitude of love.
--Give up complaining about the way things ought to be for at least 20 more minutes of prayer and Bible reading.
--Give up beating myself up when I make a mistake for asking God’s for forgiveness and starting over.
--Give up looking to others to do things for me for taking greater personal responsibility.”

Sadly, resolutions to modify one’s behavior for spiritual, personal and social growth often fall short without daily looking to God for help rather than depending on human nature to get through our shortfalls.

Prayer: Almighty Father help me to give myself up to You each and every day of my life not just for the moment.
