The journey into the Kingdom of Heaven, like every other journey, begins with a step. The moment it begins,it must continue until the final destination is reached.May we reach there in Jesus' Name.
The first step of the journey involves a call to come and an answer to that call. The Saviour calls,
28 "Come to me,all you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon youg.Let me teach you because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls" Matthew 11
A genuine answer to this call rescues anyone that responds positively to it from all sins. Then, such fellow becomes born again into the family of God.Instantly, one becomes entitled to all rights as a member of that family.
Like those two disciples that left John the Baptist for Jesus Christ to whom the Master said,"Come and see"(John1:39) to their initial question, "where are you staying?" in verse 38,those who answer His "come" know what they want and get it.
The next thing after "come" is "see".Whoever comes to Jesus sees Him in action. He promised Nathanael "You will see greater things than this." (John 1:50c).He/she is bound to see greater things than what their religious activities could offer and their newly obtained salvation.Jesus will be seen in action dealing with miracle-producing power. How? Peter reveals in Acts 10:38,
"And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went round doing good and healing all who are oppressed by the devil, for God was with him."
With the anointing,He went into action, performing miracles.
Not only this, whoever comes to Jesus Christ will surely see Him dealing with people in love and compassion.
Matthew 9:36 informs us that "When he saw the crowds,he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd".
Anyone that comes to Christ will see clearly how He gives a number one priority to prayer. He communed with the Father to know what to say to people.Luke 5:15-16 inform us,
15 "But despite Jesus' instructions, the report of his power spread even faster, and vast crowds came to hear him preach and to be healed of their diseases.
16 "But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer".
Coming and seeing these three things have a purpose as the Master reveals in John 14:12
"I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works because I am going to be with the Father".
The third step and the most difficult is to remain with Christ. It is only those who know what they want and know when they get it can hold on to it.Those two disciples wanted to stay with Christ and they did. Many came (and still come) to Jesus Christ. They see Him in action but could not (and can't) stay with Him.In John 6,
65 'Then he said, "That is why I said that people can't come to me unless the Father gives them to me."
At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him.'
To desert Him after 'coming' and 'seeing' is not new. However,to the serious minds, they should echoe the words of Apostle Peter in John 6:68,
'Lord,to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God'.
Beloved reader,as Apostle Peter said, remain permanently with Him against all odds.Remain blessed.
