Politics
As we approach the very important elections of 2012 there are some things that Christians should be aware of. The first thing we need to consider is what should be the basis of your vote? Since the name of this site is Awake to Righteousness you can probably guess that the basis should be righteousness.
I would like to differentiate between morality and righteousness. There is a reason that the English language has both words. They do not mean the same thing.
The word moral comes from the Latin word moralis which means manner. It has to do with the practice, manners, or conduct of men as social beings. Morality is determined by the society in which it operates. For example, it is perfectly moral, in a cannibalistic society, to have your neighbor for dinner. I hope you grasp my meaning.
A few years ago we had a movement called the “Moral Majority.” When you understand what moral means you also understand that the majority are always moral because it is the majority which determines what is, or is not, moral. Those of us who have been around for a while have seen what is morally acceptable in our society change drastically. When I was in high school it was morally acceptable to pray and mention God in school, but killing your unborn baby was not morally acceptable. Today it is the reverse.
Righteousness, on the other hand, means Just; accordant to the divine law, and is unchanging. It is based upon the Word of the unchanging God. It was right to pray and mention God in school fifty years ago and it is right today. It was wrong to kill your unborn baby fifty years ago and it is wrong today.
Modern, politically correct, attitudes try to tell us that we should separate our politics from our religion. In the first place, this is impossible. Our religion, or lack thereof, is what forms our values. Freedom and personal responsibility are religious values. We have freedom in America because preachers got involved in politics.
If you think it is wrong for men of God to be involved in politics then you have a problem with many of the preachers of the Bible. Tell Jeremiah, Elijah, Paul, and others that they weren’t to be involved in the affairs of state. Yes, Christians should be involved in politics and they should not leave their religious principles behind.
Now let’s look at the real solution to the problems of the world. Our problems are spiritual, not political. Abortion is a lack of respect for life and a lack of respect for life comes from a lack of respect for the Creator of life. Homosexuality is a lack of respect for the way God created man and woman for the benefit of mankind. These are spiritual problems.
Even the war on terrorism is a spiritual problem. The followers of Muhammad are spiritually deluded people. They they have been fooled by satanic deception. Oops, some people won’t like that statement. They believe that their god commands them to bring others into submission or to kill them. The Koran makes this clear. The terrorists are doing their best to follow their god’s instructions.
Even the Muslims who are not involved in terrorism are struggling for the same goals of submitting the world to Allah. The goal is the same but the method of Jihad is different. They intend to gain control politically and then impose Islamic law on all of society.
In Israel of old God often used pagan nations when Israel turned its back on Him. Why should we think things would be any different with our nation? 9/11 wasn’t the beginning of God’s warning to us. There were other attacks against us going back many years. They go back at least to the the Carter years. We haven’t listened and God keeps increasing the pressure.
So, what is the solution to the world’s problems? As usual, the Bible has the answer. It is summarized in II Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
You see, the solution is spiritual. It requires a return to the righteousness of God. I realize that this verse is written to the nation of Israel, but are not Christians called by His name?
Although it is not easy to implement, the solution is quite simple. We must realize that we don’t have the answers and God does. We must seek His face and ask Him for the solutions to our problems and then follow what He says. We must turn from our wicked ways. If we will do this He will hear our cries, forgive our sin, and heal our land. As long as we think we know all the answers and can do it on our own God will allow us to keep trying and failing. Be cause of His love for us He will continue to increase the pressure until His patience runs out. Then He will allow judgment to fall on our nation.
It is high time that we as Christians stand up for righteousness and stop cowering in fear of not being accepted, or even being put in jail. Praise be to God our forefathers were willing to stand.
