Positioning and Posturing

17And let the beauty and delightfulness and favor of the Lord our God be upon us; confirm and establish the work of our hands--yes, the work of our hands, confirm and establish it. –Psalm 90:17 (AMP)

Position plays a vital role in many areas of our lives today, from sleeping, to sports and even to employment. Sleeping in the wrong position can leave us with an aching “crick in the neck” for days sometimes. Intense physical training motivates athletes from the local ball field to the professional arena, to gain that “coveted” position on the team. That new position at work can lead to some pretty cut throat behavior, depending on what the benefits package may look like.

We all know what posture is. We have heard from the time we were children to sit up straight, don’t slouch, quit hunching, and pick up your feet. But posturing is an action. It boils down to how one carries themselves in a given situation. For instance, your posturing would most likely be different in going to McDonalds in comparison to that fancy new French Restaurant in town.

Positioning and posturing in and of themselves are not bad things. But if you are moving yourself into areas that have not been confirmed and established by God, you are in grave danger of becoming an imposter.

Imposter: fake, counterfeit, knock-off, not the real deal, fraud or even as some of the slang out there says: Poser. I hit on this a little bit in a previous blog, Diamonds or Cubic Zirconia

Position, in the Bible, and in every area of our lives today is appointed. The problems come in when we start posturing ourselves for a position that we have neither sought God about or have no business trying to fill in the first place.

Psalm 127:1 reads:
1EXCEPT THE Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; except the Lord keeps the city, the watchman wakes but in vain.

We pray for God to bless our lives. We ask for blessing and growth in our churches. But first and foremost, have we asked the Lord to build? Have we asked the Lord for direction? Have we asked the Lord at all?

Far too often today the so called “people of God” find themselves in positions they should not be in to begin with. Most people when asked why they don’t go to church answer that everyone there is “fake”. Why?

We have become professionals at posturing. We have been taught that more is better! You can do it all, have it all and be it all, to everyone, all the time! You can wear and change hats according to where you need to be, who you need to be and who you need to be “it” for. Right? You’d better be careful. Somewhere along the line, you will slip and end up walking into that French Restaurant with one tennis shoe, one high heel a sweatshirt and dress slacks because you couldn’t posture quickly enough!

We are professionals at attending church, saying and doing the “Christian” thing and giving our time in “Christian” service. So what’s the problem then? You got it all together!

Why then, are you running from here to there, church to church, conference to conference, and revival to revival? Why are your bookshelves lined with all the “Christian” self-help books and you have the DVR set to record that talk show, which you know is just going to make ALL the difference? You are looking for something real.

Look at this:
17You shall not need to fight in this battle; take your positions, stand still, and see the deliverance of the Lord [Who is] with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Fear not nor be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you. 2 Chronicles 20:17

This is an amazing account to me. All of Judah had come together to seek the Lord. And what was His reply: take your position, stand still and see. It required an act of obedience on their part to move into the position that God had appointed for them. That was it. Move into the position, stand there and watch, for the Lord was with them.

They moved into God’s appointed position by obedience and took the posture to stand. It seems pretty simple doesn’t it?

Maybe you’re not sure if God is with you. Have you asked Him? Have you taken the time to listen? Maybe you have praying for God to bless you in a position that He doesn’t want you in at all. Perhaps you knew that to begin with or maybe you didn’t know it at all. It’s not too late.

Call on Him today:
1THEREFORE, WHILE the promise of entering His rest still holds and is offered [today], let us be afraid [to distrust it], lest any of you should think he has come too late and has come short of [reaching] it. –Hebrews 4:1

It is time to stop standing in defiance asking the Lord to bless what you want Him to bless. Change you posture to one of humbleness and humility, not only on your face or knees, but in your heart. Seek Him out, His direction, where He wants you to be and what He wants you to do. Only then will your position be truly changed.
