Tebow’s Abyss
Are We in the Middle of the Story

Since the Age of Enlightenment, religion and myths have been replaced with a Darwinian worldview; however, there remains a universal fantasy for a hero like Tim Tebow. Over the past few months, the National Football League has witnessed the phenomena of hero-worship, through the fantastic religious attention given to Tebow, who is the quarterback of the Denver Broncos. In America, religion has its place in churches and super heroes belong on the Big Screen; however, Tim Tebow has brought elements of religion and action hero into the NFL. With his ability to escape a sack, extend plays, and over power defensive players, the fourth quarter scenes have drawn audiences that love a hero that defies the odds, such scenarios can only be viewed through movies. Furthermore, the religious element of Tebow is his gesture of prayer in which it appears the act conjures up a power or will to win. But, like all heroes, Tebow will experience a dissension into the abyss. Movies do this with scenes like Luke Skywalker having his hand decapitated and then dropping from a catapult into an abyss, which is nothing more than a modern version of Jesus being crucified and descending into Hades; as the critics lash at Tebow with his three losses, there is no doubt that he has regressed or fallen into some sort of abyss. Just as Jesus rose from the dead after three days, can Tebow recover from his three losses? There was hope, when the loss to Kansas City was overshadowed by San Diego defeating Oakland. And with the aid of a mentor like John Elway, it is possible this Sunday may witness a resurrection. Either Tim Tebow had a few lucky games, or we are just in the middle of a story that will have both a biblical and theatrical conclusion.
