This is the time of year for making lists. There are “wish lists” for kids of all ages, “to-do” lists, greeting card lists, grocery lists, “to-get” lists and even resolution lists. We might need a list of our lists to keep them all organized.

Let’s look at another list we should make. This one could easily be both the most difficult and by far the most important one:

Make a list of all the reasons God should not love you. This list may just be between you and Him, so don’t hold back. Big or small, include all the things that you do in your life that separate you from God, would disappoint God or keep you from being obedient to God.

If you’re having trouble starting this list… well, we’re all in the “sinner” bucket. Start with small things and work from there.

When you’ve completed a substantial portion of your list consider two things:

First, no matter what is on that list God loves you anyway. Now, that’s not the all-inclusive, generic “you.” It’s YOU, (insert your name here.) He loves you and forgives you so much that He sacrificed His only Son so that the things on that list need not matter. He loves you so much that if you were the only one who could make this list of transgressions (sins), He still would have sacrificed His Son for you. Ponder that! This is God’s grace. And it is FREE. You can’t buy it, you can’t earn it. All you have to do is accept it.

Second, this list gives you a head start on your “New Year Resolutions” list. Could there be anything better or more important to do next year than to set yourself right with God?
