Do you believe in Gravity? Have you ever seen it?

Do you believe in gravity? I suspect that you do. It’s kind of an obvious thing, isn’t it? But have you ever seen gravity? Probably not! I don’t know anyone who has actually seen gravity itself.

Now, we know that old Newton was sitting under an apple tree, reading Chaucer, I suspect, when PLOP, an apple konked him on the head. Funny things, apples. They keep showing up in all sorts of interesting ways.

Discoveries have consequences

Anyway, Eureka, Newton discovered gravity! Well, discover might be the wrong word here. Just like Columbus discovered the Americas. A few million people already living here might have issue with that.

What Newton did was to study gravity, try to understand it. Gravity was something pretty obvious. You drop something, it falls down to the ground. A 3 month old discovers gravity when you feed them peas! Plop, right onto the floor they go! Gravity is downright funny!

But gravity is a mystery to most of us. Just how does it really work? Newton did not discover gravity, but he worked so hard to understand it. Now we’ve had to change our perception of gravity a lot over the eons. When the world was flat, up was up and down was down. Simple nuff!

But Columbus proved that the world is a ball, not a plate. (Others had proven this long before, but Chris will do here)

Up and down were suddenly arbitrary. Take a look at the globe. For those down under, gravity seems to pull UP according to my globe. We had to reorient our thinking.

So, we all believe in gravity, although no one has ever actually seen it! We see that is exists, and we know it works, even if we don’t understand it very well.

Now, what does this have to do with Christian Life?

First, gravity is a part of God’s creation. It plays a huge role in how our physical universe works. But that isn’t my point here.

Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He was raised from the dead and lives today? Have you ever seen Jesus?

Unlike gravity, many, many people saw the risen Lord. We have vivid eye-witness accounts. Even doubters, like Thomas, came to accept the reality of the resurrection These eye-witness accounts are vividly told in the Gospels. Many saw Him, can we doubt that?

But there is so much more. Like gravity, we see the evidence daily. We feel His presence, just as we feel the presence of gravity. Our Lord and Savior is REAL, LIVING, and WITH US. The evidence is there, and it is powerful, and it is TRUE.

Glory be to our Living Lord and Savior,
