Compromising Positions

26Like a muddied fountain and a polluted spring is a righteous man who yields, falls down, and compromises his integrity before the wicked. –Proverbs 25:26

I would like to offer you a hypothetical situation for a moment. Let’s say my husband and I extend an invitation to you and your family to a dinner at our home. Before you get into the door, the aroma of the meal hits you. As you make your way in, you view the dining room. The table is laid with the finest linen cloth, beautiful china, the sterling silver flatware has a brilliant gleam and the crystal goblets could almost be diamonds. As we take our seats and the water is poured, it is muddy! What do you do?

Pretty loaded question isn’t it? Some would say that there is no way that they would drink it! Others would answer that it would be rude to insult their host. Which one is compromise?

I once had a dream very similar to this, only it was people going into the Church. Everything was set to participate as in a fine feast, but as you took your place, there was nothing to eat with the exception of soup, more like broth. Not only that, everyone was gaunt. I prayed about this when I woke up and really sought the Lord about what it meant.

The Lord showed me that soup (broth-like) is usually reserved for the weak and sick. The appearance of the setting led you to believe there was going to be a great feast, yet there was only broth-like soup.

I do not believe that the dream was reserved for only the Church we were attending at the time. I believe a greater portion, than we want to admit, discover themselves in this very compromising position.

I daily find myself perusing the many articles available online via Christian and some secular new sites. Many times I wonder what it is exactly, that common sense has been replaced with. The only answer that consistently rears its ugly head is compromise.

Today was no exception. There was a very brief article in Culture on the Onenewsnow website. The title is: Truth crisis infects western church. As I stated, it was very brief and to the point. But what got me about it wasn’t the article, but a reply. “The real crisis is that right wing christianity seeks to be the only voice of christianity in this country. So many people have been turned off by the pure hatred of this group, they are turning away in droves.” You have got to be kidding me! Right wing, Left wing, political voo-doo junk! If Poltics want separation of Church and State, then let the government keep their noses out of the Church!

Where is the common sense in these things?
Why would a Muslim student choose to go to a Catholic college, then get there and complain that their rights are being violated? This is politically motivated. I am a complete advocate of Freedom of Religion! I love Muslims, my sister- in-law is Muslim, my son invited one of his several Muslim friends to Thanksgiving and he accepted, so don’t even go there with me.
Why would a student who is not a Christian want to join a group at school that they KNOW is Christian and then say that their rights are being violated?

Why would a gay couple want to be married in a Christian ceremony and then claim violation of rights or discrimination when a Pastor refuses? They (gay couple) do not believe anything Christianity believes to begin with, so why? Politically motivated!

The ACLU can get involved all they want to continue to try to make a name for themselves, but the fact remains that this is not discrimination. This is a direct planned attack against Christianity.

I had a friend one time who would excuse away questions that I would pose by telling me to eat the meat, but leave the bone. Really? What if that meat has been sacrificed to idols? Is it not a sin to me?

I have yet to read of mass quantities of lawsuits of Christians trying to join gay clubs, saying that their rights are being violated. I don’t see Christians trying to join Muslim schools and then claiming their rights are being violated. Why? Because it is completely ignorant to go into a place that you know what it’s like and try to claim you have been violated!

The Church has found itself in a very compromising position. It has become lax in the things of Christianity by fighting in and amongst the Body of Christ.

25And if a house is divided (split into factions and rebelling) against itself, that house will not be able to last. - Mark 3:25

These are the very Words of Jesus Christ! Pardon me if I am wrong, and I welcome any differing opinions, but Jesus in His desire for none to be lost and for all to come to a saving knowledge of Him, was NEVER found in a compromising position.

17And as He was setting out on His journey, a man ran up and knelt before Him and asked Him, Teacher, [You are essentially and perfectly morally] good, what must I do to inherit eternal life [that is, to partake of eternal salvation in the Messiah's kingdom]? –Mark 10:17

The Scripture goes on to say Jesus loved this man and told him what he must do. Do you know what happened? The man turned away sad. He didn’t follow Jesus. Guess what! Jesus didn’t change His mind, he didn’t call a meeting and say, “you know, times are changing and in order that none be lost, we may need to compromise a little bit here and there”!

NO! NO! NO! This is what He said:

23And Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, With what difficulty will those who possess wealth and keep on holding it enter the kingdom of God! -Mark 10:23

The man referenced here had spent his whole life obeying the Commandments that had been passed down by Moses! His fault was that he had a hard time letting go of wealth!

How is it that then that we are preaching and teaching a Compromising Christ? Jesus loved, He forgave and most of the time (you can read this for yourselves) when He forgave or even healed, it was followed by the words, “go and sin no more”.

He did not say to the woman caught in adultery, “Hey, you know it’s ok, because My Grace is enough. If you do it again just call on My Name”.
No, He does not expect perfection, but there is no way He accepts the compromise either!

49And begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with the drunken, 50The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour of which he is not aware,51And will punish him [cut him up by scourging] and put him with the pretenders (hypocrites); there will be weeping and grinding of teeth. –Matthew 24:49-51

Sounds like this servant found himself in a compromising position when the Master returned.

It is time for Christians to just be Christians! Tear down denominational borders and arguments. Stand up, offer a hand, link arm and arm with your brothers and sisters in Christ. It is time for the Bible to be the measuring rod and to stand firm on THAT. When we do, there will no longer be right wing and left wing. Christ is the only voice of Christianity. We will find ourselves firm and secure on the ROCK no matter what comes and we will not be found in a compromising position.
