“So the LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A rod.” ~ Exodus 4:2

We all have heard the story about Moses, the baby boy drawn out of the waters by the Pharaoh’s daughter. He was raised in a palace, but due to actions on his part of killing a slave master, he ended up in the wilderness. God spoke to Moses one day as he was guarding his flock. God told of His plan to use him to rescue the people of Egypt and fear overcame him. Moses appealed to God because he feared his inabilities will hinder the plan and felt unworthy.

God asked Moses, “What do you have in your hand?” He said, “A rod.” I can imagine Moses looking down at his hand and thinking to himself how will an old, worn out, dirty rod save a people! But God was able to use that rod to help free Israel.

The rod was just a rod, nothing more. But it was what Moses had in his hand and that was enough for God to use.

Moses’ past led him to a place of brokenness full of anger and regrets. He wandered in the wilderness reminiscing of where he had been and where he is now because of bad choices. He went from living in a palace and walking in royalty to living in the wilderness shepherding flocks.
His situation seemed hopeless to him. That is until he had an encounter with God. Little did he know that his past positioned him to walk into his destiny - leading a multitude out of bondage! The rod that once resembled his past now became a tool for his future. It required Moses’ obedience to let go of the rod when God was then able to transform it for His Perfect plan!

Like Moses, many of us have traveled hopelessly through the wilderness. Our past and the consequences of our sins have led us to a place of brokenness. We have wandered aimlessly recalling the bad choices we made and holding on to the offenses against us. An old, worn out and dirty rod is all we have that reminds us of our past hurts, bitterness, anger, resentments, shame, guilt and all that we lost.

The Lord is asking you “What is that in your hand?” Your response may be, “Lord, it’s just an old, worn out and dirty rod that I have acquired and walk with for so long.” He then asks “Let it go, cast it down and let me use it for my purposes.” “But Lord”, you cry out as fear overcomes you ‘I cannot, I am unworthy’. “My child, there is a multitude of souls in bondage that through you, I am able to rescue from their Egypt. Your past has positioned you for such a time like this. Your rod that once resembled your past has now become a tool for your destiny.”

As long as we continue to walk in the mindset of our past and self-pity we will never be able to grasp the purpose of what we have in our hands. We will never be able to transition from the wilderness into our promised land: OUR DESTINY! The enemy knows God’s power to create something out of nothing and it was the enemy’s plan to make sure that you saw yourself as “nothing” because of your past! Therefore it’s time to release! There are people attached to your destiny so there is no more time to wallow in our past!

“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.” ~ Romans: 8:18-19

Today He is calling you to let go of your rod and allow Him to transform it into a tool for His glory and purposes. Do not allow your attitude, perception, inabilities and fear keep your from walking out His plan in your life. Let it go and LET GOD!
