This is Thanksgiving week in the USA. This week, families will gather, congregations meet and individuals will kneel to offer thanks to God for all the blessings we have in our lives. It’s a wonderful, beautiful time of year.

It’s easy to give thanks for our blessings, for God’s provision in our lives.

But what about when our lives turn upside down? Sometimes, it seems, it’s not so easy.

A job loss. Illness or loss of a loved one. Loneliness. Addiction. Abuse. When these things invade and dominate our lives, as they have for millions of people, God does not seem so close. Giving thanks… well… for what?

Yet, these are precisely the times when we need to pull closer to God. He is our Comforter, our Solace, our Hope! If you are among those facing these or similar challenges, don’t hide your face from God. Seek Him… with all of your heart, all your strength. He’s with you, He’s listening and ready to respond.

And if you are not among those suffering, remember those who are. Reach out, bring comfort or aid.

It’s what we are called to do.
