The other day as my 3 year old grandson and I sat down to a meal, an amazing thing happened. It was a revelation of sorts in my weary soul. He followed my lead, closed his eyes and lowered his head. Then in a sweet, innocent whisper he said simply, "thank you Jesus." It was a simple prayer, even for a child, but in it I felt the stirring of the Holy Spirit. It was as if I could hear the rustling of angels' wings and the warmth of God's embrace.

For the last several months I've spent a lot of time fervently and hastily praying for many things. I've prayed for the healing and intervention in the lives of loved ones. I've prayed for discernment and guidance in my own life. I've lifted up the names of those who have asked me to remember them in prayer. I have requested fellow Christians to also pray for me and with me. I've prayed long and hard. I've prayed through tears. I've prayed aggressively. I've prayed that I would be used according to His will. I've given thanks for the blessings that have yet come to pass. In my multitude of utterances, none have been so humble as those three little words. In the depths of my soul, I could hear His voice speak to me, "Be still and know that I am God." He seemed to be telling me to calm down and just trust Him. I had been falling at His feet and laying out all of the wreckage while giving Him an explanation of it piece by piece. I had been telling Him what needed to be done. I laid out in great detail how I thought He should put it all back together. He beckoned me to come humbly to Him with childlike innocence, to lay aside my own understanding and sincerely allow His will to be done.

The words of Jesus were quickly, boldly and strongly present in my mind:

“Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.”

“And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them, for your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.”

We never know when, where or how the Lord will speak to us. That day the Lord used my grandson as a vessel to speak to my heart. Since then I have laid my worries, burdens and heavy yoke at His feet and trusted His will to be done. While I'm waiting, I will whisper the simple prayer, "thank you Jesus."
