Larry Lilly's Letter Tuesday November 29, 20

For many years I have commented on the faith of the Roman Statesman Cicero being a believer in the coming Messiah due to his having heard about this prophetic event from Camel drivers covering the globe. As I recall Cicero carried a symbol of the coming Messiah which most people took to be a cross. A reader versed in the Hebrew pointed out a grand truth to me that gives the story more credence. George Worthy wrote in his daily newsletter/devotional:

“Beginning with the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet, which is called "Tav", we learn that this letter was used to indicate a mark or sign of the covenant. Can it be a coincidence that the letter "Tav" is easily recognized throughout the world today…as a cross!

The last letter of the Hebrew alphabet, aptly, symbolizes the end of our Lord's human life on this earth, as He put an end to sin by His crucifixion, establishing the New Covenant.)" Thanks George.

Aleph and Tav are the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet and correspond to Alpha and Omega in the Greek meaning first and last which Christ claims when He stated to John in Revelation 1:8 "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty." It is interesting that Christ assures John by also using the name, Almighty. The name meant to Abraham the first one to whom the name was revealed El-Shaddai, The Strong One who nourishes, gives strength, the satisfier who pours self into believing lives.

I find great comfort in knowing the truth of God's love in Christ toward me and all who seriously confess Christ. A study of the covenants will show that the strength of a covenant is dependent on the character of the strongest entity in the agreement thus my peace of mind rests in Christ and not my own strength. The Almighty cared for Abraham even in Abraham's times of lapse and trouble.

As the letter "Tav" is the last letter, so the cross of Christ is the last word in so great salvation. I think it is past time for modern Christians to leave off all the "stuff" that has been hung alongside Jesus on the cross by mere men and a few women, and join Paul and the others who originally preached Christ and Him crucified as the only way home. When a person cries in desperation, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" The only answer rushing over the ramparts of heaven and down the viaducts of time must be from the stream of truth, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Acts 16:30-31.
