Who Is My Neighbor?

The answer to this question posed by Jesus is found in Luke 10:29-37. The question is asked now since so many around us are suffering from physical disease, poverty and loss of hope.
In this story Jesus tells about a man who took a journey. While on that journey he was attacked by thieves and was robbed. The thieves stripped his clothing off of him. They beat him. Afterward, the man was abandoned and left for dead.
A Priest traveling the same route between Jerusalem and Jericho came upon the wounded man but passed by on the other side of the road without lifting a hand to help him. A Levite also came along. He, too, passed by on the other side of the road without helping the man.
There was a Samaritan traveling this same road. When he saw the man, he pitied the beaten traveler by going to him. Showing compassion the Samaritan bandaged the man's wounds, poured oil and wine on the wounds. He put the man on his donkey and took him to an inn.
Jesus asked the question after telling this story "Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"
Which one of the three would you say was the neighbor? Jesus asked the question of those who were standing around Him listening. An expert in the Law spoke up "The one who had mercy on him". Jesus told the religious man "Go and do likewise".
In what ways can you be a neighbor? You may not bind up wounds but look for ways to help those in need and then do something to help them. If you are the one who is lying beaten on the side of the road due to life's evils, Jesus is the one who can bind up your wounds and bring healing to your whole body.
