Always Just Beginning

When does eternity begin? Does it begin when we die, when we are born, before we were born? Is it worthwhile to view it in any aspect of time? Are eternity and time mutually exclusive items or merely a matter of apples and oranges? Is it possible to even conceive of eternity in a meaningful way? I dare say these questions would receive better treatment with the debating society then in here.

My assertion is that it is only viewable with the eyes of the heart and that there are some readily noticeable characteristics when seen in such fashion. God is eternal. It is always now for Him. He is now and the source of all ‘nowness’, if you will. In that regard, eternity is no longer just a matter of theology, philosophy or physics, it is a matter of trust. It is a promise which is fulfilled in the now. It is more of a place to come from than a place to go to. It IS the very eyes of the heart that become open when we are baptized by the Spirit. It is the lamp unto our feet as we walk with Him. It is He making all things new. It is a sword, a spring, a bed, a temple, a song, a cloak, a lamb and a lion. It is who we are in our Creator, who made us in His likeness for his good purpose so as to delight in His glory. It makes us used to be different and now the same. Is the warm, welcoming arms at the roadside, the great banquet, the fattened calf. It is joy, peace, love, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self control. Is is wisdom and understanding, anguish, pain and great suffering. It is sacred and holy and meek, sad, poor and persecuted. It is on the lips and in the ears of all men and it is a child. But most of all it is always … Just beginning …
