It’d been a day
since Ed left
He wasn’t slain,
He was scared at best.

Naively she thought
All would be well,
Once He showed up,
But she finds there is more.

“So you’ve come”
She breathed heavy;
She looked beyond.
The sword still on the ground
Ed, now gone.

Exhausted, she looked
Into His eyes,
But she felt nothing,
But her own sighs.

“You know that I wish for
“you to come with me.”
“I know, but I
“don’t trust you, see?”

“If I trusted you,
“I wouldn’t be
“Sitting by this
“old brown tree.

“I’d be in the Garden,
“Or in the square
“Doing your work,
“Loving them there.”

He kept his gaze steady,
His tone remained sure,
“Who can I be for you?”
Her heart she does pour.

“Please be soft, when
“speaking to me.
“Don’t be rough,
“when handling me

“Stay by my side,
“Don’t ever leave.
“When I close my eyes,
“please still be here.

“Be patient, but don’t
“ignore how I feel.
“Please don’t rebuke
“like a tyrant when I fail.

“I’ll never be good,
“enough for You.
“So why do You ask
“me to come too?

“I want to come with You,
“But I’m nervous, because
“once we’re together,
“it can’t be what it was.

“I can’t live a life
“full of such fear.
“I’m a strong woman,
“but You always sear.

“Read to me every day;
“remind me of truth.
“Sit with me outside,
“restore to me youth.

“I can go on
“for days and days.
“I’ll end with this,
“Love me always.

“Be who You promised
“that You would be.
“In the storybook
“You read to me.”
