The Psalms
Psalm 8 – I Love You More
Key Verses: (NCV)

1: “Lord our Lord, your name is the most wonderful name in all the earth. It brings you praise in heaven above.” – Just the name of God brings songs of praise to our lips.
3: “I look at your heavens, which you made with your fingers. I see the moon and stars, which you created.” – Can you picture David sitting on a hillside gazing into the heavens and contemplating the wonders of God?
4-5: “But why are people important to you? Why do you take care of human beings? ⁵You made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.” – As we gaze on the wonder of creation we may feel small and insignificant but the knowledge that He loves us and has prepared for us a place of honor can be the most humbling thought of all.
6: “You put them in charge of everything you made. You put all things under their control.” – We are in charge – the universe is at our disposal. However, with control comes responsibility.

Points to Contemplate:

Do you enjoy looking at nature? Do you feel insignificant in comparison to the size, beauty, and scope of the universe? Are there moments when you feel that you relate more with the ant at your feet than the angels in heaven? Do you ever become frustrated in your ministry efforts, feeling that they are only drops in the ocean and have no real impact on the world? David wrote this psalm for you. He had feelings of insignificance and yet, he knew the special place God had set aside just for him.
Are you important to God? Do you wonder why? In times of struggle, does it help to remember how deeply God loves you? In the midst of all creation, do you recognize that He has set you apart, created you in His image, and has prepared a place for you to bask in His glory? Do you know someone who needs to feel God’s love? Can you help bring to them the reality of the honor He provides? Can you bring the Light into their darkness?
So you are in charge, what should you do next? It is as though the boss has suddenly handed you the keys to his company and said: ‘Here. Take these. You’re in charge. I’ll be back.’ What are you going to do? Are you going to take full advantage by sitting in the bosses’ chair, parking in his parking spot, and using his expense account? Are you going to make random and irresponsible decisions? Are you going to throw a party and not worry about sales, production, or accounts payables? Or, does the full impact of responsibility now fall directly on your shoulders? Aren’t you more likely to don a caretaker’s hat and work diligently in behalf of the company to insure its well-being and continued health? Are you taking good care of God’s creation?

Promise of the Gospel: More¹

Take a look at the mountain, stretching a mile high.
Take a look at the ocean, far as your eye can see.
And think of me.
Take a look at the desert, do you feel like a grain of sand?
I am with you wherever. Where you go is where I am.
And I’m always thinking of you.
Take a look around you; I’m spelling it out one by one.

I love you more than the sun
and the stars that I taught how to shine.
You are mine and you shine for me too.
I love you yesterday and today and tomorrow.
I’ll say it again and again.
I love you more.

Just a face in the city; just a tear on a crowded street.
But you are one in a million. And you belong to me.
And I want you to know I’m not letting go.
Even when you come undone.

I love you more than the sun
And the stars that I taught how to shine.
You are mine and you shine for me too.
I love you yesterday and today and tomorrow
I’ll say it again and again.
I love you more.
