Poetry
As the waves roll in my bare toes just touch the water
My feet sink in the wet sand
Leaving footprints that will soon fade away
And not another soul wanders in sight.
Across the sea, at a distance, stands a church
Near the rocky shore and a never-ending meadow
Desolate and unoccupied; yet not lonely
Overhead an aggressive storm rages on and on
Making it impossible to see beneath the
Dark surface of the unforgiving water
The clouds pour rain as if they are ridding
Themselves of guilt and sin
Into a crashing sea of anonymousness
No one will ever know where it came from
Not even I, who stands at the edge of this island, watching
Praying that same rain will wash me of my past
And- as if God was listening- an abandoned
Row boat drifts gently in; empty and alone
The clouds made way for a warm sun
And I already know the way
(For, as a young child, I learned to row)
Soon to find that the same church
Which once stood far off and forsaken
Is now full, lively and doors wide open
Awaiting my precisely timed arrival
And we will wait for you too.
